Tsundere characters are often tsundere as an aspect of the
show, and in turn they will continue acting tsundere even after they have
confessed their love, started going out or even gotten married despite that
making no sense whatsoever.

Most of the time, a tsundere character has an arrogant
attitude. They are maybe from a wealthy family, and the guy is a pauper, or
she’s the president of the school student council, and the male is usually a
delinquent. She is usually given a reason in her backstory to reject the
character to maintain her appearances. Afterwards, develops a reason to love
the guy for the sake of the story.

Origin The tsun (??) in the Japanese word tsundere (????)
comes the word tsuntsun (????), which is an onomatopoeic for “irritable”
or “grumpy,” meaning someone is tsuntsun when they become hard to
approach and to talk with.3

Simply, when a character expresses the concept of tsuntsun,
they usually refuse to listen to others past that point. The dere (??)
portion comes from the noun deredere (????), which means “having a
crush on someone” or “being in love with someone.”

The noun deredere is more akin to the subject appearing to
be in love rather than actually being in love. It’s use as a verb includes
words for example such as dereteru (????), which would mean “to have
a crush on someone.” In short, tsundere (????) is short for tsuntsun deredere.

Harsh or Tsundere Type A AKA. Tsun: This group of Tsundere
usually have tsuntsun as their default pesronality. Their character is
dependent on someone special in the story such as the main protagonist to
inherently trigger their deredere counterpart. The range of tsuntsun they
exhibit can reach from simple irritated pessimism (Kagami of Lucky Star)6 to

rage induced determination (Louise of The Familiar of
Zero)6. It is important to know which part of the tsundere personality is the
outside and which the inside. If the Tsundere is “The Rival” type character,
she is more likely to be harsh. Helping a rival character is usually
accompanied by a line such as “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doing this for

Harsh type characters can overlap with a Jerk or a Heart of
Gold type character but rarely. The personality of a Tsundere depends on the
actions of select people or adverse scenarios; the deredere side usually only
appears when someone has acted in a way to trigger it. A “Jerk” with a “Heart
of Gold” is mean spirited in general regardless of whether the other person is
kind or unpleasant, and shows their good side only when the situation warrants,
regardless of how the other person had been acting.

Kind or Tsundere Type B AKA. Dere: This group of Tsundere
usually have deredere as their default personality. They are kind and generous,
but just happen to have a hidden side as well.

Sweet types should not be confused with a Yandere. If a Type
B Tsundere was convinced that their love interest turns them away, they would
revert back to the deredere side and probably enter the phase where they want
their beloved to be happy, while Yanderes do not handle rejections well at all
and usually leads to a more twisted side of their personality.8
