Personal History:  

      Erving Goffman was born to Max and Anne Goffman. He had one older sibling who was actress. His family were Ukrainian Jews who immigrated to Canada after he was born. Before sociology, Groffman first went to school with an interest in chemistry and film.  In 1952, Erving married Angelica Choate and together they had one child. Later, Groffman married Gillian Sankoff, and together they had a daughter.
