The Sacroiliac Joint is a major linkage system from your lower back to your pelvis. Generally, the SIJ is stiff, but when trauma or extreme movements occurs the SIJ will have too much mobility causing an uncomfortable feeling and pain sensation. Another way that you receive SIJ Pain, is when the joint is too stiff causing the same uncomfortable and painful feelings. Oftenly, having SIJ Pain causes other pain in the lower back, butt, and hip. Strengthening your abs and butt will help to reduce risk of getting SIJ Pain. Symptoms of the SIJ Pain are: mimics other back and hip injuries, lower back, hip, groin, buttock and sciatic pain, typically worse with standing and walking and improved when lying down, but not always, painful to sit cross legged and is normally painful to lie on your side for extend periods,Bending forward, stair climbing, hill climbing, and rising from a seated position cause pain, pain is  sometimes reported to increase during sexual intercourse and menstruation in women. Diagnosing SIJ Pain is difficult because it tends to mimic other hip injuries. MRI’s and X-Rays help to diagnose SIJ Pain, but the best way to diagnose would be through an experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapist. Treatment for SIJ Pain is in 4 different phases. The first phase is getting rid of the inflammation. Through this your doctor will probably prescribe ice therapy, anti-inflammatory drugs, electrotherapy, acupuncture, deloading taping techniques, a SIJ belt, soft tissue massage and temporary use of a mobility aid. The second phase is working to restoring range of motion and strength. The physiotherapist should recomend you to a lower ab and hip core stability program to help build strength. The physiotherapists should prescribe exercises for you to do at home to continue building your strengths. The third phase of treatment would be restoring full function of the SIJ. In this phase, your physiotherapist will realign your pelvis and SIJ range of motion. Depending on your daily life, will affect how restored your SIJ will be. Lastly, for phase four, you will be preventing a recurrence. SIJ has a tendency to recur due to lack of rehab. The best way to prevent the injury from recurring would be to continue to do the assigned exercises
